Springbuck is found in many parts of southern and southwestern Africa, including South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Angola. They inhabit a wide range of habitats, including grasslands, savannas, and desert scrubland.
Springbuck are relatively small, with males typically weighing between 75-90 pounds and females weighing between 60-70 pounds. They stand around 28-32 inches at the shoulder.
Springbuck have a distinctive reddish-brown coat with white underparts. They have a dark stripe running down their back and a white rump patch that is bordered by a dark stripe. They also have a white face with dark markings around their eyes and nose.
For hunting springbuck, hunters may want to consider using a rifle chambered in a caliber such as .243 Winchester or .270 Winchester. A good quality rifle scope with a range-finding reticle and a bipod or shooting sticks can also be helpful. Other recommended gear includes comfortable hunting boots, camouflage clothing, binoculars, and a hunting backpack.
Springbuck are typically found in open habitats, making them easier to spot than some other antelope species. However, they can still be difficult to track and locate due to their skittish behavior. Hunters can look for signs such as tracks, droppings, and browsing patterns to help locate springbuck. They may also want to consider using a spotting scope to scan for animals from a distance.
For springbuck, the recommended shot placement is just behind the shoulder, aimed for the heart and lungs. A well-placed shot will cause the animal to drop quickly and humanely.
