Red Hartebeests are found primarily in southern Africa, including countries such as South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. They prefer open grasslands and savannas, but can also be found in wooded areas and shrublands.
Red Hartebeests are a medium to large-sized antelope species, with males weighing between 120-200 kg (265-440 lbs) and females weighing between 100-160 kg (220-350 lbs). They typically stand between 1-1.3 meters (3.3-4.3 feet) tall at the shoulder.
Red Hartebeests are a reddish-brown color with a lighter underbelly. They have long, narrow faces and curved, S-shaped horns that grow up to 70 cm (27 inches) long.
When hunting Red Hartebeest, it is recommended to use a rifle with a minimum caliber of .270 or larger, with a scope capable of long-range shots. Camouflage clothing and a sturdy pair of hunting boots are also recommended.
Red Hartebeests are active during the day, but tend to rest during the hottest part of the day. They are often found in open grasslands and savannas, and can be tracked by looking for their tracks, droppings, or feeding areas.
When hunting Red Hartebeest, the best shot placement is just behind the shoulder, aiming for the heart and lungs. This will ensure a quick and humane kill.
